The State of Cameroon lost over FCFA 114 billion to corruption in 2023 as the Special Criminal Court and the National Debt Recovery Agency make their first prints in the Annual Report.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission of Cameroon, CONAC, has reported the State of Cameroon lostover FCFA 114 billion to corruption in 2023. The Chairman of CONAC, Rev. Dr Dieudonné MASSI GAMS made the revelation on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Yaounde, as he presented the Cameroon’s 2023 Anti-Corruption Status Report, in a ceremony attended by Members of Government, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Judicial Authorities, Members of Parliament, Anti-Corruption Stakeholders and Civil Society Advocates.
The Report presents activities carried out by the National Anti-Corruption Commission as well as other control Institutions, the judiciary, government ministries, public and private institutions including local councils in the fight against corruption within the year under review.
The 2023 publication by CONAC however shows a drop in the number of Local Council that reported on anti-corruption activities as well as religious bodies. Some key state institutions including the Ministry of Territorial Administration and the General Delegation for National Security did not also send their contributions. A situation decried by the Chairman of CONAC who, at the same time, lauded the efforts of the Special Criminal Court and the National Debt Recovery Agency, who were in their maiden participation in the elaboration of the Cameroon’s Anti-Corruption Status Report.
The 2023 Report is divided in four parts with part one focusing on prevention activities against corruption, part two on sanctions, part three on the fight against money laundering and recovery of assets derived from corruption and part four onCooperation both at local and international levels, in the fight against corruption.
