The Chairman of CONAC on January 08, 2018, received in audience a delegation from the Union of the Populations of Cameroon (UPC) political party. The team, led by the party’s Secretary General, Honourable BAPOOH LIPOT Robert, came to seek means through which the UPC party can contribute in the fight against corruption in Cameroon.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission, CONAC, will in the days ahead reinforce activities within political parties as Cameroon prepares to organise Municipal and Legislative Elections in 2019. The move, according to the Chairman of CONAC, Rev. Dr. Dieudonné MASSI GAMS, is intended to guard against election fraud and other acts of corruption linked to the conduct of elections. He made the declaration on January 08, 2018, while receiving in audience a delegation from the Union of the Populations of Cameroon (UPC) political party.

The team, led by the party’s Secretary General, Honourable BAPOOH LIPOT Robert, came to seek means through which the UPC party can contribute in the fight against corruption in Cameroon. The officials told the Chairman of CONAC that the UPC intends to combat corruption within party ranks and amongst their communities by creating anti-corruption units and by mobilising militants to say no to corruption.

In this regard, they expressed the wish that CONAC should lend them a hand by providing technical support, notably the training of members of the anti-corruption units to be put in place and the provision of sensitisation material that will help enhance the fight.

Rev. Dieudonné MASSI GAMS lauded the initiative and reassured the party leaders that CONAC will accompany them in their endeavour. He said political parties have direct contact with the population at all levels of society and thus can effectively contribute to the fight against corruption.

CONAC’s Chairman said the move by the UPC party is most welcome as political parties, considered pillars of integrity in the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, are expected to spear the fight against corruption in the country. He explained that CONAC will, in the days ahead, launch a campaign in a to engage political parties in the fight against corruption especially with the approach of Municipal and Legislative elections in Cameroon this year.
